The Pecos Bills were a failed expansion team that was set to play in the Pecos League in 2012.
Despite having a sitable ballpark and being in a perfect location, Reeves County decided against having a team.
2012 Attempt to bring Professional Baseball to Pecos
The Pecos Bills were a planned expansion team in the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs.
Originally the Bills were set to make their debut in the 2013 season which was the third year of the Pecos League.
The Pecos League was going to expand from 6 teams that played in 2012 (Alpine Cowboys, Roswell Invaders, Las Cruces Vaqueros, White Sands Pupfish, Santa Fe Fuego and Trinidad Triggers) to 10 teams.
The Pecos League would have two divisions with the following alignment:
The South Division (Alpine Cowboys, Roswell Invaders, White Sands Pupfish, Carlsbad Bats and Pecos Bills)
The North Division would have consisted of (Trinidad Triggers, Raton Osos, Santa Fe Fuego, Taos Blizzard and Las Vegas Train Robbers)
Martinez Field on CR 118 would have been an ideal Pecos League Park with covered seating and the ability to sell beer on County Property.
Reeves County was tasked with two very basic objectives
#1 Move the lights back in the outfield
#2 Build a suitable infield (field was all dirt infield)
Despite huge interest from the local community neither the infield being moved nor moving of the lights occured.
In January of 2013 the Pecos League ended its efforts to locate a team in Pecos Teams. The items was taken to county council where it was shelved.
Many of the players signed to play in Pecos turned about to be top Pecos League Players in Trinidad, Colorado.
